Shopee has partnered with SPX Express to provide critical aid to victims of Typhoon Carina through its disaster relief initiative, Shopee Bayanihan. The platform has donated essential relief goods to areas severely affected by the typhoon, including Mandaluyong, Bulacan, and Parañaque.
Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines, emphasized the importance of swift action in times of crisis, stating, "At Shopee, we believe in the power of our platform to make a tangible difference in the lives of Filipinos, especially during times of crisis."
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that over 1.8 million families in Metro Manila and surrounding areas were impacted by Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon, with more than 5,000 families seeking refuge in evacuation centers. In response, Shopee, alongside SPX Express, delivered 8,000 canned goods, 2,000 kg of rice, 4,000 liters of water, 2,000 packs of noodles, and 5,000 packs of biscuits to the affected communities.
Shopee employees, in partnership with local leaders such as former Councilor Charisse Abalos-Vargas, volunteered to distribute these goods in Barangay Harapin Ang Bukas, Mandaluyong City. The efforts were praised by local officials, including Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos, who acknowledged Shopee's commitment to community welfare.
Meycauayan, Bulacan Vice Mayor Jojie Violago, Parañaque Vice Mayor Joan Villafuerte, and Guiguinto Bulacan Vice Mayor Banjo Estrella also expressed their gratitude for Shopee's support, highlighting the positive impact on their constituents.
Shopee is also empowering its users to support Typhoon Carina victims by purchasing donation vouchers for various organizations through its platform. The Bayanihan initiative continues to reflect Shopee's commitment to helping Filipinos in times of need, reinforcing the spirit of community and mutual aid.
