If Vice President Sara Duterte will be critical to the national government, she must also offer alternative solutions and show that she is rendering service outside of her official function as vice president to avoid being accused of just playing politics.
This is according to two leaders of the “Young Guns” in the House of Representatives, La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega V and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, who both said VP Duterte should back up her criticisms with concrete solutions.
“Sana may ma-offer ka rin na counter na plano at saka syempre may ma-offer ka na serbisyo besides sa official na function mo,” said Ortega during the daily press briefing at the House of Representatives.
VP Duterte recently criticized the government for allegedly not funding the Davao City anti-flood program just because the mayor there is her brother, Baste Duterte.
She has received much flak from many personalities, with many saying that the Dutertes should have done that already in their 33 years of rule as mayors of Davao City.
Adiong said VP Duterte should keep her criticisms constructive, saying “Mas maganda constructive yung criticism mo. Lahat naman tayo, we are working in the same government, working for the same constituency -- mga Pilipino.”
Adiong said VP Duterte has not announced if she is positioning herself to be an opposition, and that until she does, he said that any critical statement against the government should be accompanied by solutions.
“We hope that any critique or any statement nya na sa palagay nya ay mali sa gobyerno, since hindi naman po siya opposition … dapat mag-provide siya or mag-offer siya ng other possible solutions o alternative ways para maibsan o mapaganda ang sebisyo ng administrasyon na ito,” Adiong noted. “We hope she can provide us ng alternative solutions if she has one.”
The same group also offered their take on the significant dip of 19 points in satisfaction rating of VP Sara Dutert,e describing as reflective of her performance as a government official.
“Kasi iyong survey is also how the public responds to the performance eh … It’s actually a grading system po iyong survey na iyan. It’s the people’s grading system,” Adiong said.
“So, if there’s a decline, it means that the people are dissatisfied,” he added.
Second, Adiong said, VP Duterte’s decline in ratings may have been influenced by her position on several issues that concern the Filipino people.
“People really are asking what would be her position on matters that matter to them. Sinabi ko nga WPS, etc. So, ultimately, it boils down to the people’s perception whether you are really indeed an official that really caters or do your services, offer your services for the betterment of the public,” Adiong said.
“So ganoon lang po iyong position ko diyan. Tulad po ni Speaker Martin Romualdez, nakita iyong performance niya for the past two years, naturally people are satisfied with it. So iyon lang po very simple lang po para sa akin, it’s how the people grade you, grade their public officials,” he added.
While Speaker Martin G. Romualdez surged in satisfaction ratings by 16 points in the latest SWS survey, that of VP Sara Duterte declined by as much as 19 points in the same poll.
Ortega said VP Duterte’s silence on important national and international issues also affected her satisfaction ratings.
“Her silence on important issues, national issues and international issues … may effect talaga iyon sa pag-dip ng numbers. It’s about time that she addresses the concerns and certain issues. Baka iyon po ang isa po na rason kung bakit bumababa po iyong numbers,” Ortega said.
Bongalon said: “Well basically, we as public officials, we are being rated based on our performance, based on our attitude, based on our leadership skills …”
