SP Chiz presides Thursday session revival. Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero, presides over the plenary session this Thursday, August 8, 2024, tackling several bills that would establish, upgrade and increase bed capacities of several hospitals nationwide as well as bills proposing that local holidays will be working holidays.
Thursday sessions, which were implemented before to tackle special bills like Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (June 3, 2021) or pass the 2021 General Appropriations Act (November 6, 2020), were revived in this Congress to tackle proposed local bills.
On the local hospital bills discussed in this session, Escudero said all local hospitals were established by law “so whenever we increase the bed capacity, when it was originally established, there is a need to amend the law to reflect on the new bed capacity.”
On local holidays, Escudero suggested that all proposed holidays will be working holidays. “These will only be considered as non-working holidays if the President issues a proclamation (to declare such) which is the current practice now anyway,” the Senate leader said.
