Speaker Romualdez, Tingog, DSWD generate 10,000 food packs, AKAP aid for 10,000 Marikina families

A TOTAL of 10,000 Marikina residents and their families who were evacuated at the height of the floods brought about by heavy rains from Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat) will receive P5,000 each in financial aid next week under the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

At the same time, 10,000 relief packs were facilitated by the offices of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Partylist Reps. Yedda K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre from DSWD will be given to flood victims in close coordination with the office of Marikina City Rep. Stella Quimbo.

Taos-puso po kaming nakikisimpatiya sa inyong kalagayan ngayon,” the leader of the 300-plus members House of Representatives said.

News reports indicate Marikina recorded the highest number of evacuees amid the onslaught of habagat as enhanced by Typhoon Carina at 31,128, which is more than the nearly 29,000 people evacuated in 2009 during Typhoon Ondoy.

The Tingog Partylist and the Office of the Speaker initially distributed hot meals in two communities in Marikina City on July 24, in Brgy. Malanday and Brgy. Jesus Dela Peña.

Acidre himself led the distribution of hot meals through the Tingog Mobile Kitchen.

Metro Manila, including Marikina City, has been placed under a state of calamity because of the heavy rains recorded the past three days.

Speaker Romualdez said his office as well as the offices of other House members are doing everything to bring aid to the affected people.
