‘Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea’ set on July 7

Everything is all set for advocacy run “Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea” on Sunday, which is being organized by RUNRIO Inc. along with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), National Task Force-West Philippine Sea, Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

In a Saturday news forum in Quezon City, PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela said the July 7 advocacy run will be held in Metro Manila, which is expected to be participated in by over 7,000 runners.

After the Manila leg, Tarriela said the second event will be held in Cebu City on August 4, followed by the third leg in Cagayan de Oro on September 8.

Tarriela said there are other local government executives who have expressed their intention to have a similar activity, including Baguio and Dapitan.

“So, for this ‘Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea,’ this is part of the advocacy na ginagawa ng National Task Force West Philippine Sea to create awareness sa ating mga kababayang Pilipino about the relevance of our fight for the West Philippine Sea,” Tarriela said.

Quoting RUNRIO Inc., Tarriela said the revenue of the advocacy run will be used to support the comic book project entitled “Ang mga Kuwento ni Teacher Jun,” which talks about issues on the South China Sea.

He added the book also discusses the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to simplify how to understand the 2016 arbitral ruling as well.

“For every time na magri-register kayo sa pagtakbo sa West Philippine Sea, ang bawat isang runner will be receiving a comic book. This is not just an ordinary paperback comic book – this is a hardbound comic book because the objective of this is talagang patagalin natin, mabasa ng napakaraming Pilipino,” he added.

Tarriela said everyone, including foreigners, is welcome to participate in the advocacy run. | PND
