The University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPD) will continue to deploy more security personnel after a stabbing incident inside the Quezon City campus.
In an advisory late Monday, UP-Diliman alarmed its students and faculty to stay vigilant and report “anything suspicious to the authorities.”
“The UPD administration will continue deploying more security personnel in different areas of the campus,” the post read
The UPD said that at around 8 p.m. on Monday, the campus police responded to a report of a stabbing incident at the National Science Complex (NSC).
The victim was brought to a hospital and the Quezon City Police District took over the case.
As of this writing, no other details of the incident have been released.
The UPD NSC is where the research and academic institutes of the university are located, including the Marine Science Institute, National Institute of Geological Sciences, National Institute of Physics, National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development.
Netizen Ingrid Del Rosario Dumandan told the UPD administration to remind security officers to be strict in allowing vehicles inside the campus.
She said the “no sticker, no entry” policy is not being enforced.
“Sa mga side gates, ilang beses namin na-observe lalo ‘yun mga naka-bike at motorcycle na ‘di man lang sinisita ng mga guard (At the sidegates, we have observed that bicycle and motorcycle are not checked by the guards),” she posted.
Others said UPD should add street lights and enhance police and security visibility.
“The place is too dark at night. Be proactive please. Don't wait for incidents like this to implement stricter security measures,” wrote another netizen.
The UPD, meanwhile, urged getting in touch with the Public Safety and Security Office at 0917-5971984 or the UPD Police at 8981-8500 local 113 in case of emergency.
