BAGUIO CITY – Supply and prices of vegetables bound for the trading posts in La Trinidad, Benguet are stable despite a landslide in the Barangay Pilando part of Halsema Highway on Aug. 23.
The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) report obtained Friday showed that the supply and prices of vegetables were not affected.
Based on DA-CAR’s Aug. 27 and 28 data, wholesale price of cabbage ranges from PHP20 to PHP28 a kilo; Chinese cabbage, between PHP18 and PHP25; potatoes, PHP34 to PHP40; tomato, PHP55; carrots, PHP40 to PHP53; and chayote (sayote), PHP14.
The volume of the same commodities also showed stability at about 2.1 million kilos, with the average volume being traded at around 1.8 million.
Vegetables brought to the trading posts come from most of the 13 municipalities in Benguet, like Buguias, Atok and Tublay, and parts of Ifugao and Mountain Province.
The regional Department of Public Works and Highways said the temporary road beside the collapsed section, caused by heavy rains, is open to light vehicles.
Alternate routes include via Cervantes Road and via the Buguias-Vizcaya roads, but with longer travel time. (PNA)
