The Marcos administration supports the "Bayani ng Pilipinas" campaign, which champions farmers as the country's heroes.
In a Wednesday meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the farmers' sacrifice to provide food for Filipinos and sustain its supply.
"Yes, it's hard (farming), but look what they do, how, and what they do. If, you know, if they didn't farm, we wouldn't have anything to eat," the President said.
The Bayani ng Pilipinas Campaign is an initiative pushed by PSAC to advocate farming as a "good way of life" and encourage the younger generation to pursue farming as a profession.
It is also one way to celebrate Filipino farmers and inspire them to continue and progress.
In developing campaign materials and rollout strategy for the initiative, President Marcos said they would start formulating ideas to promote the project better.
The President is prioritizing the agricultural sector to uplift farmers and fisherfolk and promote food security in the country.
From May 9, 2024, to June 5, 2024, the government has distributed PhP906 million in assistance to more than 90,000 beneficiaries in seven regions (Regions II, V, IX, X, XI, XII, and BARMM) through the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk, and their Families (PDF).
Several irrigation projects have also been completed and rehabilitated under the administration of President Marcos to support Philippine agriculture.
Additionally, as of December 2023, 2.16 million hectares of the service area, or 68.88 percent of the country's estimated 3.13 million hectares of total irrigable area, had been developed.
