Sen. Loren Legarda presides over the Finance Subcommittee G hearing on Thursday, August 29, 2024 on the proposed 2025 appropriations for the different agencies dealing with culture and the arts. Legarda underscored the importance of cultural agencies as the guardians of the country’s history, language, and the arts.
“They are tasked with ensuring that the legacy of our past continues to inspire and inform future generations. In a rapidly changing world, where cultural identities are constantly being challenged, it is imperative that we provide these institutions with the necessary resources to fulfill their mandates effectively,” Legarda said in her opening statement. “Our shared goal has always been to preserve our cultural heritage and promote Filipino identity,” she added. Discussed were the proposed budgets of the National Commission for Culture and Arts Proper (NCCA), National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), National Archives of the Philippines (NAP), Commission on the Filipino Language (Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino/ KWF), National Library of the Philippines (NLP), and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
