Flood control project safeguards riverside community in Nueva Ecija

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed the construction of a river control structure in Barangay Pag-asa, Talavera, Nueva Ecija, aimed at addressing the flooding caused by the Talavera River.

The completed project includes a 266.00-linear meter slope protection system built from steel sheet piles, supported by concrete beam coping and gabions. This structure is designed to prevent river overflow, reduce flood risks during the rainy season, and minimize water damage to surrounding areas.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Osias A. Santos noted that the structure is reinforced with concrete slope protection to prevent erosion and ensure the long-term durability of the river wall. “The revetment not only improves the overall safety and resilience of local residents but also acts as a strong barrier, protecting nearby agricultural lands from potential flood-related devastation,” District Engineer Santos stated.

The project in Talavera, which cost ₱71.65 million, was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
