The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the widening of a 1.6-kilometer stretch of the Biliran-Cabucgayan Road to accommodate more motorists and alleviate traffic congestion in Biliran, Biliran Province.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan stated that upgrading the road from two to four lanes complements previously widened segments of the Biliran Circumferential Road, promoting smoother and faster transportation of people, goods, and services in the area. The project, which cost ₱48.96 million, also included the construction of drainage and slope protection to ensure the safety of travelers, especially during rainy conditions.
In addition to this project, the DPWH is working on the concreting of a 984-meter farm-to-market road in Barangay Tucdao, Kawayan, Biliran, with a budget of ₱14.7 million. "This project aims to support farmers by providing faster and safer access to transport agricultural products to larger markets at a lower cost," said Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon.
Currently, the farm-to-market road project is 89 percent complete and is expected to finish within the fourth quarter of 2024. It includes the provision of cross drainage, grouted riprap, and stone masonry.
The road widening and concreting projects are being implemented by the DPWH Biliran District Engineering Office, funded by the 2024 General Appropriations Act and the Department of Agriculture (DA), respectively.
