Meralco supports Phl's hyperscaling thrust with switching station for Biñan data center

As part of its commitment to support the advancement of the country's hyperscale industry, Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) signed an agreement with A-FLOW for the construction of a 115-kV switching station that will cater to the power requirements of its ML1 data center in Biñan, Laguna.

A-FLOW is a joint venture between AyalaLand Logistics Holdings Corp. (ALLHC) and FLOW Digital Infrastructure, a Singapore-headquartered data center developer and operator.

The switching station, which will be completed in December 2025, will also improve system reliability, benefiting the data center and its nearby areas.

"The signing of the Switching Station Agreement and Deed of Usufruct (SSADU) for a dual feed from a 115-kV substation marks a step forward in our shared commitment to developing critical infrastructure with the highest redundancy and resiliency in the country," said A-FLOW president and FLOW Digital Infrastructure chief executive officer Amandine Wang.

Wang added, "It's a true showcase to the market and customers of what we can do to make an impact by ensuring uninterrupted operation, mitigating the risk of downtime, and enhancing reliability."

Meralco recognizes the country's steady growth of data centers as more businesses require robust data management and digital services support.

"With hyperscale data centers considered one of the emerging industries in the country, Meralco and its subsidiaries have been proactively preparing to meet the industry's requirements and support its growth through our customized end-to-end energy+ solutions," Meralco Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Ferdinand O. Geluz said.

The power distributor is committed to supporting the hyperscale industry by addressing its critical requirements of high service-level agreements for redundancy and reliability, scalable capacity, safety, and renewable energy.

"We assure data center operators like A-FLOW of Meralco's unwavering commitment to providing reliable power and innovative solutions and energizing this critical digital infrastructure to meet global standards and further elevate the data center industry in our country," Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer Ronnie L. Aperocho concluded.
