The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday held a comprehensive flushing, cleaning, and misting at the Malabon Central Market and other public places in the city as part of its "Bayanihan sa Barangay" community outreach program.

In a news release, the agency said personnel from its various offices conducted the cleaning operation, unclogged and repaired drains, trimmed and pruned trees, cleared sidewalks of obstructions, painted yellow boxes on the street, and posted traffic signage.

The MMDA also conducted an orientation on solid waste management, anti-smoking/vaping, anti-littering, disaster preparedness, and traffic management for residents.

During the program implementation in Barangay Tañong, Malabon City, MMDA acting chair Romando Artes said the project is meant to bring the MMDA and its services more accessible and closer to the public.

Artes highlighted the importance of the cleanup drive, particularly for undisrupted water flow towards pumping stations in the city, to reduce flooding incidents.

The MMDA also invited residents to bring their recyclables to its mobile materials recovery facility and exchange them for groceries.

A one-stop query service was installed where local motorists can check their traffic-related violations.

Artes said the MMDA is eyeing more projects in partnership with Metro Manila local government units, such as the development of parks and the acquisition of more trucks for the “Kalinisan at Kaayusan” program for proper waste management. PNA
