No intention to reduce holidays

Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero, during Monday’s media interview, August 12, 2024, clarifies that the Senate has no intention to reduce the current number of holidays. Escudero said there are currently 23 to 25 local and national holidays – 21 national holidays and two to three municipal and provincial holidays. "Remember, there are 21 national holidays, there's at least one holiday per municipality (and) we're granting holidays in provinces that don't have a holiday yet. But if you already have, don't add more,” Escudero said, adding that the Senate will approve in the plenary later in the afternoon three measures declaring non-working holidays in three provinces.
