A flood-prone barangay in Cabadbaran City, Agusan Del Norte now benefits from the timely completion of a flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along a section of Cabadbaran River, providing the much-needed protection of residents, especially during the rainy season.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region XIII Director Pol M. Delos Santos, said that the flood mitigation project, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a contract amount of P96.3 million, addresses the problem of flooding and soil erosion that have long plagued the Calibunan-Mabini Section of the Cabadbaran River in Barangay Calibunan.
The flood control project involved the construction of a 280-meter concrete revetment along the right side of the river, reinforced with structural steel sheet piles to counter soil erosion, including excavation and embankment activities to ensure the stability and longevity of the flood control structure.
“By completing this project three (3) months ahead of time, we have delivered on our promise to protect the lives and properties of the people in Cabadbaran City, especially those living near the riverbanks,” said Director Delos Santos.
The flood control structure along the Cabadbaran River in Barangay Calibunan, Cabadbaran City, Agusan Del Norte, was implemented by the DPWH Agusan Del Norte District Engineering Office.
