Perpetual Help defeated La Salle Green Hills, 84-76, to stay on top of Group A in the Next Generation Basketball League (NGBL) at Aero Center in Quezon City on Saturday.
TJ Tabbuan scored 21 points on top of 11 rebounds and six steals as the Junior Altas improved to 2-0.
Lebron Jhames Daep chipped in 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Louie Rosales and JD Pagulayan added 12 points each for the Las Piñas-based team.
“I don't expect from one player alone. Everyone can step up. Pagulayan stepped up and I was not surprised because he can do it. The rest of the boys can also do it,” coach Jeoph Cleopas said after the game.
After LSGH cut Perpetual’s 12-point lead to seven late in the fourth, Pagulayan sank two triples that gave the Altas an 83-70 advantage, 1:39 remaining.
The Greenies rallied behind Andre Bautista and Ram Sharma to move within 76-83, 53 seconds left.
But that proved to be their last stand.
Guillian Quines finished with 21 points, four rebounds, and one assist for LSGH, which committed 22 errors against Perpetual's 15.
Likewise streaking to 2-0 was Mapua University which outclassed Xavier School, 98-69.
Yuri Duque paced the Red Robins with 14 points and six assists, while Froilan Reyes, Ruzzel Del Poso and Noah Banal chipped in 11 points each.
Andrew Choa had 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Gavin Riley Uy and Andrew Chio added 18 and nine points, respectively for Xavier, which fell to its second straight loss.
Meanwhile, San Beda clobbered MGC New Life Christian Academy, 103-43, to rise to 2-1 in Group B.
Laurence Batongbakal had 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Rafael Bautista and Benedict Agbayani added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Red Cubs bounced back from their 59-62 loss to the Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tams last week.
“Happy naman ako, kaso lang nag-set kami ng goal sa defensive side eh (I'm happy. It's just that we set a goal on the defensive side)," San Beda head coach Miko Roldan said.
