PUP students develop free 'iSkOLAR' charging station

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), together with climate justice campaigner 350 Pilipinas and the PUP Center for Environmental Studies (CES), launched its first “iSkOLAR Charging Station” on Thursday.



FREE OF CHARGE Students can now charge their devices for free at the “iSkOLAR Charging Station,” thanks to the innovative ideas of Electrical Engineering Technology students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.



The project was developed by Electrical Engineering Technology students at the PUP Institute of Technology Campus on Pureza Street, Sta. Mesa, Manila.


According to PUP president Manuel Muhi, “The solar charging station developed by our students affirms PUP’s commitment to leading polytechnic education towards green innovation and sustainable development.”


“Together with our iskolars ng bayan, PUP is set to reduce its environmental impacts while advancing sustainability,” Muhi added.





The PUP official shared that thousands of PUP Institute of Technology students may now charge their laptops, phones and other gadgets for free at the “iSkOLAR Charging Station.”


Muhi called on students and faculty to foster collaboration and replicate similar research projects on other PUP campuses.


The solar charging station is a research project of PUP Electrical Engineering Technology students Ferolin Joy Nohay, Javezel Obenza, Jennie Rose Oswa, Chelsey Reyes and John Paul Teope, with support from 350 Pilipinas and CES.


“We commend our students from the Institute of Technology for this green innovation. Once more, we have exemplified our oath, mula sa ‘yo, para sa bayan,” Muhi stressed.
