LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment-Bicol (DOLE-5) through its Sorsogon Provincial Office on Thursday awarded a livelihood project worth PHP1.4 million to a workers' group in Sorsogon province.
A media release from the agency said the grant to the Castilla Integrated Workers Association (CIWA) was given in partnership with the Castilla municipality.
Imelda Romanillos, DOLE officer-in-charge regional director, said the livelihood project will boost the livelihood and local economic activities of CIWA to organize and host various events, including entertainment functions, public gatherings, and special occasions.
The assistance given at the municipal covered court in Barangay Cumadcad included sound systems, fog machines, lighting, and other necessary items to enhance CIWA's capacity to meet the community’s needs for essential event equipment.
“I hope you take good care of the tools and equipment provided, as they are essential to sustaining and enriching the project. Your commitment will ensure its long-term success and benefit the entire community," Romanillos told the beneficiaries.
The Department of Trade and Industry’s Negosyo Center also conducted a capacity-building training session for the 51 members of CIWA, which covered key topics such as starting and growing a business, business registration, entrepreneurial mindset, customer relations, values formation, basic bookkeeping, and digital marketing.
Romanillos said the comprehensive training aimed to provide the CIWA members with the necessary skills and knowledge for long-term success in their entrepreneurial ventures.
She said by equipping the members with essential business skills, they will be empowered to thrive and contribute to the local economy. (PNA)
